How We're Building an AI Assistant for Cleaners in a $150B Industry

We didn’t set out to build an AI tool. We set out to solve real problems. At The CoBuilders, our journey started with making it easier to book house cleaning online. But as we grew alongside our network of cleaners, we saw the deeper need: support with pricing, marketing, and day-to-day business tasks. That’s why we built SCRUB — an AI assistant designed for cleaning professionals. With help from Model Context Protocol (MCP), SCRUB has already evolved from “tell me what to do” to “here’s what to do next.” In this article, I share how we’re thinking about SCRUB’s future — not as a chatbot, but as a tool that could one day find clients, close jobs, manage bookings, and empower cleaners to run better businesses, faster.

At The CoBuilders, our mission has always been practical: use technology to solve real-world human problems. We didn’t start with AI. We started with a simple but powerful idea — make it easy for people to book reliable house cleaning.

That core idea led to the development of our nationwide cleaning booking platform — available on web and mobile — connecting customers with independent cleaners and janitorial teams.

But over time, we saw the deeper problem. Cleaners weren’t just struggling to find work — they were struggling to run a business. Marketing, pricing, client messaging — all of it consumed time and energy most didn’t have.

That insight gave birth to SCRUB:

The Simplified Cleaners’ Resourceful Utility Bot — a business assistant powered by AI, designed for cleaners, and built to grow alongside them.

From “Tell Me What To Do” to “Here’s What To Do Next”

We built SCRUB to solve operational friction — not to experiment with buzzwords. And by leveraging Model Context Protocol (MCP), we gave SCRUB the ability to remember who it's helping, what they've done, and what matters next.

SCRUB has already moved beyond reactive chat. It now suggests proactive actions, like:

  • “Want to follow up on that offer you just posted?”
  • “Would you like a price breakdown for 3-bedroom homes in your city?”
  • “Need a client message to confirm tomorrow’s job?”

It’s a quiet but powerful shift: from assistant to co-pilot.

Where SCRUB Is Going Next

Our roadmap includes two more phases — taking SCRUB from smart assistant to fully agentic business partner:

Phase 1 (Today):

Creates posts, prices jobs, generates images, and messages clients on command

Phase 2 (In Progress):

Tracks user intent and outcomes — suggests “next best” tasks to grow revenue

Phase 3 (Vision):

An AI agent that can:

  • Find new customers
  • Negotiate pricing and book jobs
  • Offer deals or upsells
  • Manage reviews, reminders, and rebookings
  • Integrate with external tools, calendars, and real-time data

The Bigger Picture

We're not chasing perfection — we're chasing momentum. Every cleaner using SCRUB today is saving time and seeing growth. We believe the future of vertical AI is in useful, goal-driven tools that understand the user’s world deeply.

SCRUB might someday outscale our original platform — and we’re building like that’s a real possibility.

Because at the end of the day, AI for cleaners isn’t about the tech. It’s about showing up for a workforce that’s long been overlooked, and giving them tools that work as hard as they do.
